Nadjarian and other auto industry experts say it’s a great luxury car buy for someone who does not have a lot of money. But be warned: It’s a small car, not built for shuttling kids around town. “The A3 is very nice,” he says. “But it’s tiny.” “There’s a finite window of time for that entry-level luxury car,” Nadjarian says.

The price of the X1 makes it comparable to cars not earning the luxury label, such as the Honda CR-V, Ford Escape and Toyota RAV4. The X1 is also known for having good fuel economy. “I’m partial to BMW or the Audi A3,” Nadjarian says. “I think the driving experience is more of a drivers’ car, if you love to drive.
