Do I need to reprogram the key fob after changing the battery? – Typically, you do not need to reprogram the key fob after changing the battery, However, if you’ve replaced not just the batteries but also some of the internal wiring and electronics, you may need to reprogram it by pairing it with your vehicle once again. The usual sequence for reprogramming your car battery is as follows:
- Put the key into the ignition
- Turn the key into the ON position (which switches on the instruments and screens but not the ignition) and then turn it back to the LOCK position.
- Do this several times until you hear a chiming sound (or some other sound indicating a reset)

What happens if I use a CR2032 instead of CR2025?
Can I use a CR2025 battery instead of a CR2032? – For as long as either fits in the battery compartment, the CR2025 and CR2032 may be used interchangeably with minimal effect although the CR2032 would probably last slightly longer simply because it has a higher capacity (mAh).
- Here’s a tip: If you find yourself in a pinch with only the CR2025 available, you can fold up a piece of aluminum foil or another conductor to fill up the 0.7mm extra space.
- Place it on top of the positive (+) side of the battery and close the compartment to hold it in place.
- Ensure good contact with the battery and spring otherwise you risk the battery being intermittent.
Although this is not ideal, as the CR2025 may not last as long in a device designed to use CR2032, it can be useful in an emergency or battery shortage situation to keep your device running. Another good way of explaining the similarity and difference of a CR2025 and CR2032 battery is by looking at their names and understanding the code that the International Electrotechnical Commission ( IEC) used in naming these batteries.
- The combination of letters and numbers used to name these batteries is not arbitrary.
- It tells you a lot about the battery’s physical attributes.
- The two letters tell you the chemistry of the battery.
- C means it’s a lithium manganese dioxide battery.
- R indicates round (cylindrical) form.
- The first two numbers relate to the diameter while the last two numbers relate to the depth of the battery.
Along these lines, it essentially says that CR2032 has a 20.0mm diameter and is 3.2mm thick while the CR2025 has a 20.0mm diameter and is 2.5mm thick. Most lithium coin cell batteries can be understood using this method.

Deal Diva: Simple steps to maintain car key fob technology to make it last longer MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Millions of drivers use a key fob to lock and unlock your car. It’s a great feature to have, but keyless entry is only a convenience if you maintain the technology. Sometimes, the small things in life, matter most, like not having to dig in your purse to find your keys, or using your key fob to lift and open the back doors load groceries. But what happens when the fob isn’t working? Just like your car itself, the car’s key fobs needs maintenance too.
- Gary Freeman, owner of C & G Auto in Myrtle Beach said, if it stops working, don’t be so quick to replace it.
- A replacement fob can be expensive, they can be several hundred dollars and they have to be programmed once you get a replacement fob,” explained Freeman.
- He says the first thing you should do is check the battery.
“A good indication, that the battery is losing its power or getting weak, is you have to push the remote several times to get it to lock or unlock, that might mean the battery is beginning to lose its power,” said Freeman. Make your Key fob part of your car maintenance. He calculates that the car computer signal can read the fob from between six to 10 feet away, he recommends anything beyond that as a safe distance to store or hang up your keyless entry remote. For most car key fobs, the battery life is three to four years with normal use, Freeman says.
If the fob isn’t working, many times the car won’t start because the computer system won’t recognize that the key fob is in the car, Freeman said that could create another problem. Freeman added, “In most cases, if there’s any questions about it, the owners’ manual will clear that up for you, or most any auto repair facility can replace that battery.” Copyright 2019 WMBF.

Which batteries are currently used by Mercedes-Benz?
Mercedes-Benz to develop solid-state batteries with Taiwan partner
- SHANGHAI (Reuters) – Taiwanese battery maker ProLogium Technology Co on Thursday said it has signed a cooperation agreement with Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz to build test vehicles equipped with co-developed solid-state batteries in the coming years.
- ProLogium in a statement said it will receive “high double-digit” million euros in investment from the German luxury car maker which will also take a seat on ProLogium’s board.
- The battery maker said it will use the investment for battery technology development and to help establish production capacity in Europe.
- The partners also agreed on milestones involving the use of solid-state battery technology in a range of passenger vehicles in the second half of the decade, ProLogium said, without elaborating.
“Solid-state technology helps to cut down battery size and weight,” Markus Shafer, chief technology officer at the German automaker, said in the statement. “This is why we are partnering with companies like ProLogium.” Solid-state batteries use thin layers of solid electrolytes, which carry lithium ions between electrodes.
- They are seen as a potential game changer for electric vehicles (EVs) as they can store more energy, charge faster and offer greater safety than lithium-ion batteries that rely on liquid electrolytes.
- ProLogium has become the latest battery manufacturer to team up with Mercedes-Benz, as the German automaker works to make all of its vehicles all-electric by 2030 and catch up with EV leader Tesla Inc.
Other Mercedes-Benz battery partners include Factorial Energy, Automotive Cells Co and Farasis Energy.
- The latest tie-up comes as EV-sector companies compete to develop next-generation batteries to cut costs and reduce “range anxiety.”
- Chinese EV maker NIO Inc last January said it would deliver its ET7 sedan equipped with a 150-kilowatt-hour battery pack featuring solid-state cells from the fourth quarter of 2022.
- ProLogium said it aims to accelerate development of a new plant by the end of 2022 to move toward mass production of its solid-state battery.
- In October, the battery maker raised $326 million in its latest funding round from investors including Primavera Capital Group and SoftBank China Venture Capital.
